AJHS Football Players on Make A Difference Day

On Saturday, October 7th, members of the Apache Junction High School Football team participated alongside dozens of other local volunteers in the City of Apache Junction's "Make A Difference Day" participating in a community wide clean up project.

Apache Junction City Councilman Peter Heck was a team leader for the event, and worked with AJHS Football Head Coach Bruce Binkley and his Prospector student athletes. After the event, Peter contacted AJUSD, commending the hard work and effort the team provided to the community.

Email Message from Apache Junction City Councilman Peter Heck:

My name is Peter Heck and I am a member of the Apache Junction City Council. I participated in the Make a Difference Day this past Saturday. I was a team leader assigned to one of the dumpsters located on Warner Drive.

The team that came to help me were members of the Prospector Football team along with their coach, Bruce Binkley.

I wanted to take a moment to commend these young men for their help as volunteers. These young men worked very hard and did so without me having to give them direction. When a vehicle came to the dumpster with items for disposal, these young men would get right to work pulling the items (some very heavy and covered in dirt) and throwing them into the dumpster. They worked well as a team to assure that all of the items brought to the dumpster were thrown into the dumpster. There were several of the young men who climbed onto the top of the dumpster to assure that the items for disposal were evenly spread within the dumpster.

They were very courteous and dedicated to the tasks at hand. I was so very proud to know that these young men are students at our high school. They represented the high school with distinction. I was very impressed with Coach Binkley who remained with the students and encouraged them to fulfill their duties.

I want you to know it is most refreshing to recognize we have young people in this city who are willing to volunteer for the benefit of the city.

Again, I was very proud of these young men as I trust you will be as well.

Respectfully,

Peter Heck
City Council Member

Congratulations to our AJHS Prospector Football student athletes on a job well done!
