The Apache Junction Unified School District provides programs and related services to all students, aged 3 through 21, who are eligible under the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA). A multidisciplinary team determines eligibility following the completion of an appropriate evaluation. Special education services are provided through collaboration between the student’s home, general education and special education. This team concept ensures that (1) specialized instruction will be provided in the least restrictive environment (LRE), (2) each student will have maximum access to the general curriculum to meet educational standards applicable to all children, (3) intensive instruction may be granted which will lead to more rapid learning of academic skills and the mastering of academic standards, and (4) immediate help can be provided for hard-to-teach students, in the form of intervention assistance, who might not otherwise be eligible for special education services.
