Firearm on Campus

Setting the Record Straight: Firearm Selfie Incident

We are aware that misinformation is circulating on social media regarding the firearm selfie incident at Apache Junction High School.

To clarify, the district was not aware that a student had brought a firearm onto campus during the school day. School administration was notified only after school, when the Apache Junction Police Department contacted us after receiving a report about a photo that had been posted to social media. The student in question was no longer on campus when AJPD arrived.

Once notified, we immediately worked with AJPD to support their investigation and began following district procedures. We are grateful to the individual who reported the social media post. Their willingness to speak up allowed law enforcement to respond quickly.

If you or your student ever see something concerning, whether in person or online, please report it immediately. Speaking up helps keep our schools safe.

We remain committed to sharing accurate information with our community and will continue working closely with law enforcement whenever situations like this arise.
